Bio

Professor Ludmila Smirnova has been at the Mount for the past 10 years. She has taught courses in Curricular Planning, Methods of Teaching, Nature of schools and Society and Teaching with Technology. She has become increasingly recognized for her leadership in the application of emerging Internet technologies to instruction.

Professor Smirnova leads numerous workshops on the application of Smart Technologies and Web 2.0 tools in college and primary/secondary classrooms nationally and abroad. Prior to this, she was professor of education at Volgograd State Pedagogical University (Russia), where she also served as Dean of the School of Foreign Languages.

During her 25-year career in Russsia, Professor Smirnova was known for her reintroduction of Montessori education in southern Russia and the design of innovative themed “charter” schools. Her prolific publications include books, chapters, papers and conference presentations world-wide on the issues of innovative pedagogy and teaching with technology.

She is a partner, co-designer and co-facilitator of the Moodle for Teachers, Emergent technologies in teaching workshops at IT4ALL Integrating Technology for Life-Long Learning. For more than 5 years, Professor Smirnova has been the counselor of the local chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education. The MSMC Sigma Tau chapter is nationally recognized; it has won an Achieving Chapter Excellence award this year and will receive the award in November at the 48th Biennial Convocation in Indianapolis.

Professor Smirnova is a certified Smart Board Trainer. She conducts training workshops at MSMC, nationally and internationally. In June 2012, she ran two workshops for educators in Denver:

  • Teaching and Learning in a Live Virtual Classroom
  • Creating Effective Teaching/Learning Environment with Moodle 2.0

Dr Ludmila Smirnova is a member of several professional organizations:
