The common loon has been considered to be both an aesthetic and
ecological indicator of the health of northern freshwater lakes.
Dr. Mager will describe what biologists are currently learning
about loon life history and behavioral ecology, and discuss what he
has learned regarding how acoustic communication influences the
strategies by which loons select and defend breeding territories
within northcentral Wisconsin.
