Transfer Honors Scholarship

Mount Saint Mary College is reaching out to help community college graduates attain bachelor's degrees.

The College will award six half-tuition scholarships per academic year to one graduate from each of the following community colleges: Dutchess County, Orange County, Rockland County, Ulster County, Westchester County, and Nassau County community colleges.

The deadline has passed for applying for the Transfer Honors Scholarship for the 2013-14 year. Transfer Honors Scholarship applications will be available in January 2014 for the 2014-15 academic year.

How the scholarships are awarded

Transfer Honors Scholarships are awarded to matriculating, full-time transfer students who have demonstrated their academic and leadership skills through prior college and community experiences.

Successful candidates must plan to graduate in May 2014 or August 2014 with an associate degree and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3. Please note that receiving a transfer honors scholarship renders a student ineligible for a merit scholarship.

In order to be considered as an applicant for the MSMC Transfer Honors Scholarship:

1. Candidates must submit a completed application and a short written statement by April 1, 2014. Qualified applicants must be an “Accepted student” through the Office of Admissions by April 1, 2014. Applications submitted or students accepted after this date will not be considered. Please return completed application to Matt Dembinsky, Transfer Coordinator.

2. Finalists will be asked to interview with the Transfer Honors Committee during the first two weeks of April. Finalists should be prepared to discuss leadership roles, future career plans and why they feel that they will be an asset to the Mount student community.

3. Award recipients will be notified by April 21, 2014. To accept the award, recipients must submit their admissions deposit to the Office of Admissions by May 1, 2014.

4. The Transfer Honors Scholarship is renewable for one year, provided that the student maintains a 3.3 or better cumulative GPA, demonstrates that his/her leadership talent is being successfully applied to campus life and the advancement of MSMC, and remains in good social standing with the college. Students must also maintain continuous, full-time enrollment; students who withdraw from the college due to a hardship will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. All recipients will be reviewed at each semester-end to determine eligibility for the following semester.
