Career & Personal Updates
1971
Nancy Travis Sanford, and her husband, Brian,
after retiring from their teaching careers yearned to follow the
warm weather. They sold their home in Liberty, NY and moved into a
new home in The Villages, Florida in March 2009. They still
maintain their camp on the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand
Islands for the summer months. They are busy enjoying time with
their grown children and old friends and lending a helping hand or
listening ear whenever they can.
1973
Kathy (Hand) Murin has been very busy, thanks to
her children. Her oldest daughter, Pam, is the mother of her two
granddaughters, Reagan (3) and Shannon (1). Her son, Bill, recently
married Ashley Hendryk '05; they are both teachers in the
Spackenkill, NY school district. Her daughter, Patti, is an actress
and recently performed on Broadway in "Xanudu". Her youngest son,
Kevin, is a freshman at Central Connecticut State University. It
was great seeing everyone at our recent 35th reunion!
1976
Kathleen(Quane) and Bruce Grandjean, Patricia (Sharkey)and
Peter Kringas Susan (Sweeney) and Gerald Lambert
gathered for dinner and a mini-reunion on May 23, 2009. Kathleen,
Patricia and Susan were classmates and graduated together in
1976.
1980
Doris Hettinger-Mackey writes that the “Mackey
family is doing well”. Children, Charles & Julia, will graduate
8th grade and move on to high school!
Janet Nelson Nickerson has had a year of
celebrating - marriage of grandson Jonathan W. Nelson II to Amanda
Bracco and the birth of Summer Marie Nelson, their daughter and
Janet’s granddaughter. Also, the 25th Wedding Anniversary of son
and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Diana Nelson and high school
graduation of grandson Timothy J. Nelson.
1982
Shannondoah Rose is working with the Visiting Angels
Agency of Goshen, a provider of non-medical aides for living
assistance services.
1986
Donna (Smith-Peretin) Falquero currently works as a
Clinical Manager at Duke Prenatal Consultants of Burlington at
Alamance Regional Medical Center. She teaches about horses and
horseback riding on the side as Carrots 'N Zeus, LLC. and operates
the "Community Horse Connection".
1991
Sherri (Cort-Wollenber) Cortland wrote Windows of
Opportunity published by Ozark Mountain Publishing. Windows of
Opportunity will appeal to readers of New Age/Spiritual books, who
are looking for insight, guidance and answers to why our lives are
filled with difficult challenges. The expected date of release is
the summer of 2009.
1995
Anthony Chiodi has a pediatric practice in
Oneida, NY which is both rewarding and busy. For relaxation he has
started running and completed his first marathon over Memorial Day
weekend!
1998
Jennifer (Henn) Olenick is currently teaching 6th
grade English at Minisink Valley Middle School in Slate Hill,
NY.
1999
Dr. Amy (Dziezynski) Karls was recently featured
in a nationwide press and video release for Hill's Pet Nutrition,
Inc. as part of their campaign to promote awareness of pet obesity
in the US. The video tells the story of Alice, a 26 pound cat,
abandoned at the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals, who successfully lost over 42% of her body weight in 6
months through the proper use of nutrition & exercise. Dr.
Karls was Alice's nutritional advisor while she was rehabilitated
at the RISPCA - she happily was adopted by a new, more responsible

2000
Joe Polvere has been teaching for nine years in
Tenafly, NJ. He also works as an adjunct professor of education at
both Montclair State University and Jersey City University.
2003
Isabel (Da Silva) Miano was promoted to Healthy
Families Supervisor at Occupations Inc. located in Newburgh,
NY.
2004
Karen Ulrich is pleased to announce that her
daughter, Megan Ulrich, is a 2009 Alumna, having
received a Bachelors in Nursing!
2006
Jennifer (Van Tassell) Bell is currently a
Special Education teacher for the Wappingers Central School
District. Jennifer has received her MA from Walden
University.
Shane Bell is currently working at West Point at Army Sports
Properties. He is pursuing a Masters in Sports Business Management
from Manhattanville College.
2008
Christina Buechel has been interning at Elant in
Goshen at the Help Desk. Her duties include troubleshooting
technical problems both onsite and remotely, rebuilding hardware
such as computers, and configuring devices such as printers. She is
currently attending Marist College and is enrolled in their
Graduate School of Computer Science, studying Information
Systems.

1986
Donna Smith-Peretin was remarried in July, 2006
to Bill Falquero and lives in Chapel Hill, NC.
1997
Gail Carfizzi married her best friend,
Mark Caldwell, on March 21, 2008.
Brian Meany married Elena (Tchertkoff)
Meany ’98 on October 26, 2008 at the Holy Virgin
Protection Church in Nyack, NY. The reception took place at The
Nyack Seaport, also in Nyack, NY. Several former Mount Students
were part of the wedding party: Katrina Shafer '98, Bobbi
Jo (Pellegrino) Arroyo '97, Michael Augelli '98, Shawn Bakker
'98, and Alex Mejia '98. Brian and Elena
are currently residing in Greenwood Lake, NY.
2003
Diana Rakowski married Giovanni
Maturo on July 31, 2009 on Long Island. The wedding took
place at St. Annes Church in Garden City with a reception at the
Royalton Mansion in Roslyn. Bridal party included Bridget (Marrer)
Stegmeier & Mike Stegmeier, Lauren Lupario and Laura Quicquaro.
In attendance were Mary (Slattery) Egan, Malia Guzman, Danielle
(Iudica) Moloney, Nicole Savino and Tara Greco.
2004
Lawrence Combs married Katie
Schroeder (Catholic University '04) on August 14, 2009 at
Sts. Philip and James Church in St. James, N.Y. Several Mount Saint
Mary's alumni were in attendance at the nuptials and the reception
that followed at Lombardi's on the Sound in Port Jefferson,
N.Y.
2006
Shane Bell & Jennifer
VanTassell was married on July 4, 2008 in Millbrook, NY. A
reception followed in Poughkeepsie, NY. They have made their home
in Newburgh, NY.

1969
Lynn (Bertholf) Priebe and husband,
Keith, are the proud grandparents of three
wonderful grandchildren, Maya (6),
Reed (4) and Bryce (2). They are
the children of their daughter, Kim (Priebe) Krodel
'98 and her husband, Ron.
Births
1993
Stacey Demirjean-Finn and husband,
Tyler, announce the birth of their son,
Brody Edward on September 6, 2008. Brody joins his
sisters, Taryn, Karyle and Loryn in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Stacey
continues to work as an RN in Labor & Delivery.
1995
Anthony Chiodi and wife, Jaimie,
were blessed with the arrival of a healthy daughter, Anna
Rose, on June 18, 2009. This brunette rounds out the color
palate joining her blonde sister, Elena, and red-haired brother,
Ben.
1997
Shawn Bakker and Cheryl (DeHaas) Bakker
’99 are proud to announce the birth of their son
Zachary Michael on January 7, 2009. Zachary joins
big sister Preslei at home.
Peter Kruszewski and Caroline (Camaya)
Kruszewski '99 welcomed their first child, a baby boy.
Devin Piotr Kruszewski was born on April 17, 2009
weighing 8 lbs 1 oz and measured 21.5 inches.
1998
Jennifer (Henn) Olenick and husband,
Brian, announce the birth of their fourth child,
Joseph William, on April 1, 2008. Joseph joins big
sisters, Jillian, Alyssa and Brianne.
1999
Tom Burns and Carrie (Mennerich) Burns
'97 gave birth to a baby boy, Thomas Joseph Burns
III on June 9, 2009. Beverly (Mc Dermott) Mennerich ’69
and her husband Ken are very proud grandparents!
2001

announce the birth of their son, Tyler, on June
20, 2008.

Algiers Brown and Deidra
McNish-Brown had a baby girl, Gabrielle,
on May 13, 2009.
2006
Sean Glander and Kayla (Collins) Glander
'07 would like to announce the birth of their first child,
a daughter, Kaia, on July 23, 2009 at 8lbs 2 oz.
and 21 inches long.
In Memoriam
Arthur Schleiermacher, father of
Margaret (Cook) Schleiermacher ’77 and grandfather
of Kaitlin Schleiermacher ’06, passed away on June
3, 2009.
Art Lucia, beloved husband of Maureen
(Mclaughlin) Lucia ’71, passed away on January 13, 2009.
He was buried with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
Sarah Studler ’07 passed away unexpectedly on
Friday, June 26, 2009.
