A Case for Support

Through the $10 million Answering the Call capital campaign, Mount Saint Mary College is taking a major step forward to build upon its nationally recognized programs in teacher education, nursing and the sciences in response to the following pressing regional and national issues.

A lack of qualified, effective mathematics and science teachers in many elementary and secondary schools affects the preparation American students receive in these subjects, undermines their motivation to pursue these fields in college, and threatens our nation's ability to compete in a global economy driven by innovation.

A growing shortage of professional nurses trained at the baccalaureate level is affecting the quality of care in America's health care system. This will eventually lead to a shortage of nursing faculty, requiring masters and doctoral level degrees, further exacerbating the nursing shortage.

Mount Saint Mary College is well positioned to help address these issues. The Mount's undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing and education are nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
