Newburgh, NY -
An artist’s reception featuring the photography of Charles Frank
and watercolors by Len DeVirgilio will be held in the Aquinas Hall
Gallery at Mount Saint Mary College, November 1, from 4 to 6
pm.
The gallery is located on the first floor of Aquinas Hall, 330
Powell Avenue, Newburgh. The public is invited to the free
event.
An award-winning photographer, Frank has been taking pictures
since age 10, with a special interest in travel and landscape
photography. He teaches photography at local libraries.
DeVirgilio, a former graphic designer, is a commissioned artist
painting for individuals and corporate clientele. He teaches group
watercolor classes at the Mount’s Desmond campus.
Works by local artists Joel McKible, Robert Goldwitz, Joan Gore
and William Peppiatt are featured in the exhibit.
Salvador Dali sculptures from the Mount’s permanent collection
are on view. The gallery features nine signed prints by Dali, from
a collection donated to the college in 1984.
During a 1963 visit to Mount Saint Mary College, Dali presented
his book DALI: A Study of his Art-in-Jewels, to Mother Leo
Vincent, OP, former Mount president. His flourishing inscription
reads Hommage de Dali, or with his respect. The original signed
book is housed in the college’s Curtin Memorial Library.
The reception is sponsored by Curtin Memorial Library and
Artists on the Campus, which organizes an outdoor show held
annually and featuring original paintings, prints, drawings,
photography and sculpture by numerous artists in the region.
