Earth Day carnival at Mount

April 19, 2012

Newburgh, NY -

Mount Saint Mary College’s MAGIC student club (Mount Alliance for Green Initiatives on Campus) will host an Earth Day carnival, Saturday, April 21 from 12 to 5 pm. The public is invited.

The event will be held on the field in front of Guzman Hall, on campus at 330 Powell Avenue, Newburgh, NY (rain site: Kaplan Gym).

Activities for all ages include an ecology jeopardy-style game, recycling sorting game, ping pong pyramid, and a ball tossing game.

There will also be crafts such as wallet-making, basket making, tie-dyeing, and jewelry/key chain making from beads made from magazine pages.

Admission, which includes raffle and activity/refreshment tickets, is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Tee shirts for tie-dye are available for $5, or guests can bring their own tee shirt to tie-dye.

Funds raised from this event will help establish a memorial garden on campus for the late English professor, Virginia Davidson.

MAGIC allows Mount students to work collaboratively with peers, staff, faculty, and Bishop Dunn Memorial School to raise awareness about the environment, promote recycling, and create habits that will conserve energy and promote a “GO GREEN” agenda. Margaret Larrousse, assistant professor of mathematics, science and technology, is the club advisor.
