Newburgh, NY -

Excellence in Nursing finalist and Mount Saint Mary College alumna Lisa Bilyeu ’08 of Lagrangeville (left) is joined by Mount incoming freshman nursing student Jane Brach (center) of Walden, and Deborah Hrelic, chair of nursing studies at Mount Saint Mary College.

Bilyeu, who will receive her master’s degree in family nurse practice during commencement at the Mount on May 14, was named one of the Top 20 nurses by Hudson Valley magazine. As a staff nurse at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., she credits her success in the intensive care unit to her graduate education at Mount Saint Mary College. Bilyeu added that she anticipates a career in internal medicine or endocrinology where she hopes to “have an impact on health care and patient outcomes, creating new and better ways of providing care.”

Brach, a senior at Valley Central High School, received a scholarship from the magazine towards her studies at the Mount, which offers the only four year nursing degree program in the mid-Hudson Valley.

In 2010, another Mount alumna, Margaret Deyo-Allers, of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, N.Y., was named the Hudson Valley’s Top Nurse.
