New Scholarship Opportunities at the Mount

Mount Saint Mary College is happy to announce new scholarship opportunities for first-year and transfer students.

Pushing back against the "double whammy" of a sluggish economy and diminishing state and federal aid for education, the Mount is responding to students' needs by creating new scholarship opportunities. And they're not just for straight-A students.

Leadership Scholarships

Leadership Scholarships are awarded to matriculating, full-time freshmen who have demonstrated their leadership abilities through prior high school and community experiences. These awards can total up to $5,500 per academic year.

Award recipients will engage in co-curricular, campus experiences in exchange for the leadership scholarship. These experiences may include student newspaper, campus yearbook, radio station, pep band, community service projects, event marketing, or student government. All leadership experiences, with the exception of athletic ability or participation, will be considered.

To maintain the scholarship, students must comply with leadership scholarship requirements, and remain in good academic and social standing with the College.

First-year, matriculating freshmen can apply for the Leadership Scholarship, but the application must be postmarked or e-mailed by  April 1, 2011.  You may send an e-mail with any questions about Leadership Scholarships to kelly.yough@msmc.edu

Transfer Scholarships

The Mount has some very good news for certain community college students who want to continue their education with a bachelor's degree.

Starting in Fall 2011, the College will award six full-tuition Transfer Honors Scholarships per academic year to one graduate from each of the following community colleges: Dutchess County Community College, Orange County Community College, Rockland County Community College, Ulster County Community College, Westchester County Community College, and Nassau County Community College.

The Mount has identified representatives at each of the named community colleges, who will nominate candidates to MSMC Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Jerome Wyant, by April 1, 2011. Successful candidates must plan to graduate in May with an associate degree, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3. Scholarship recipients will be announced in mid-May 2011.

The MSMC Transfer Honors Scholarship is renewable for one year. Students who earn this scholarships will participate in the Mount's Honors program and carry a continued minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.

If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to transferhonors@msmc.edu and we'll answer your questions.

Mount Saint Mary College wishes all prospective candidates for the scholarships the very best of luck, and congratulates them on their accomplishments.
