Mount appoints executive level administrators

Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY has filled three key posts this summer.

Walden, NY resident  Art Criss has been named vice president for enrollment management; Mary Hinton of Milford, Pa., vice president for planning and assessment; and Alice Walters of Wappingers Falls, NY, associate dean for academic affairs.

Criss comes from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana where he served as vice president of enrollmentmanagement, admissions, retention and financial aid.

Previously, at Dominican University of California in San Rafael, Criss was assistant vice president of undergraduate admissions. Among many accomplishments at both schools, Criss formulated recruitment and marketing plans which opened new geographic areas and boosted enrollment.

Criss has actively served his local communities in Rotary International, and as an United Way Big Brother, volunteer EMT/firefighter and Meals on Wheels volunteer.

Criss earned an MBA degree in strategic leadership from Dominican University of California and a BA degree in business management from Lynchburg College.

Prior to joining Mount Saint Mary College, Mary Hinton served as associate vice president of academic affairs and chief planning and diversity officer at Misericordia University, Dallas, Pa. She was responsible for academic assessment and institutional research and effectiveness, and undertook the development, implementation and assessment of the five-year strategic plan.Mary Hinton

Other positions held at Misericordia include director of the core curriculum and assistant professor in the religious studies department. She also serves as a consultant and school development expert to a variety of public school districts across the nation.

Hinton’s teaching and research interests include African American religious history, religion and popular culture, and women’s spirituality. Her latest publication is The Commercial Church: Black Churches and the New Religious Marketplace in America  (Lexington Books). Hinton is a Great Women of Northeastern Pennsylvania Award recipient and a member of the board of trustees for Luzerne County Community College.

She holds a PhD. in religion and religious education with high honors from Fordham University; an MA in clinical child psychology from the University of Kansas; and a BA in psychology from Williams College.

Alice Walters worked as an associate dean of general education and associate professor of history for St. Francis University in Loretto, Pa. She was a key participant in the revision of the general education curriculum and oversaw outcomes assessment for programs and courses directly administered by the office of general education.

Previously, she served as chair of history and associate professor at Murray State University. She was also interim director of the honors program and an associate professor at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell where she redesigned the honors colloquium to create greater opportunities for honors students’ skill development, community building and enrichment.

A researcher and book, textbook and peer reviewer, Walters has authored many scholarly articles on the history of science. She was also a fellow of the Charles Warren Center for American History at Harvard during 2001-2002. Walters earned a PhD and an MA in history from the University of California, Berkeley. She received a BS in physics and history from the University of Washington, Seattle.

The Mount is busy this summer with new student orientations, July 15-16; an adult degree and graduate student information session, July 13; an admissions sneak peek summer barbeque, July 20 and August 2; and transfer student information night, July 27. The Higher Education Opportunity Program summer academic institute will be held through July 29.
