Mount Habitat for Humanity club helps build a home

March 17, 2011

Newburgh, NY -

Instead of basking on the beach during spring break, 14 students from Mount Saint Mary College’s Habitat for Humanity club traveled to Cookeville, Tenn., where they helped build a home for a single mom and her children.

The students were aided by volunteers from Habitat for Humanity and the sweat equity of the homeowners-to-be.

Mount Saint Mary College, ranked a Top-Tier Regional University (North) by U.S. News & World Report, is known for service and more than half of its students volunteer through service clubs or in the field as a requirement of coursework.

Students, preparing for careers in education, health professions, business, psychology, human services and liberal arts, also provide assistance to Big Brothers Big Sisters, and at schools, hospitals and clinics in the community. For these and other efforts, Mount Saint Mary College was named to the federal President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
