Mount students prepare care packages for U.S. Troops

Mount Saint Mary College’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity is seeking donations for its annual care packages for troops project.

Students will prepare about 120 packages, containing nonperishable snacks, playing cards, and toiletries, on February 23.

Founded on a Catholic and Dominican heritage, Mount Saint Mary College is recognized for excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship and community engagement. More than 60 percent of its 2,700 students volunteer through service clubs or in the field as a requirement of coursework.

Students, preparing for careers in education, health professions, business, psychology, human services and liberal arts, provide assistance to Big Brothers Big Sisters, and at schools, hospitals and clinics in the community.

Through Campus Ministry, students serve in local soup kitchens and collect toys and clothing for the poor as they partner with the Salvation Army of Newburgh, Catholic Charities and Newburgh Ministries.

For these and other efforts, Mount Saint Mary College was named to the federal President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
