Mount students vote for best pizza in Newburgh

Election Day taste test names Luca Pizza Café number one

Newburgh, NY -

Jelissa Ortega, a psychology major from New York City, samples pizza during Mount Saint Mary College’s “Best Pizza in Newburgh” contest.Mount Saint Mary College’s annual Election Day pizza contest has declared Luca Pizza Café on South Street the overall best pizza in Newburgh.

Luca also won for best crust and best sauce.

Student “voters” at the Mount named Eliana Pizzeria and Restaurant on Lake Street 2nd best and Pizza Heaven on Old Forge Road in New Windsor 3rd in the 5th annual event conducted by the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

The one hundred and one students who participated paid a $5 tasting fee with proceeds of $505 benefitting the Habitat Collegiate Challenge spring break project in Huntsville, Alabama.

Pies were also sampled from Artie’s Deli, Brother Bruno’s, Cosimo’s on Union, Eddie’s, Pizza Shop and Pizza Mia.
