Walkill resident wins top prize at art show

Annual show and sale at Mount Saint Mary College draws 57 artists

Robert Goldwitz of Wallkill received the Sr. Francis Joseph Egan Best in Show Award at the Mount Saint Mary College Artists on the Campus Show for his color photograph, Shawangunk Sunrise.

Newburgh residents also received top awards.

Jane Lawrence won the Gayle Clark Fedigan Painting Award for her pastel work, Country Lilac. Len DeVirgilio’s watercolor, Fresh Snow, received the Bethlehem Art Gallery Award.

First place ribbons in the multi-media Artist on the Campus show went to: Tom Dinchuk, Wallkill; Deborah Balfour, Chester; Melanie Paquin, Cornwall; Dina Maston, Pawling; Rebecca Cornell, Walden; and Joan Mester and Cathy Prager, Newburgh.

Sara Baloga, a Mount Saint Mary College history major from Binghamton, won the first place ribbon in the all media category of Hudson River Valley Scenes for Winter on the Hudson. Baloga’s parents exhibited the piece since she is currently studying in Florence, Italy through the Mount’s summer study abroad program.

Second place ribbons: Russ Astrab, Salisbury Mills; Alvin Chiappolini, Pleasant Valley; Debra Femiak, Newburgh; Elysa Belessakos, Cross River; John Robert Gordon, Mohegan Lake; and Elaine Ralston, Olivebridge.

Honorable mention ribbons: David Valentin and Lorraine Sniderman, Goshen; Randy Chisholm, Chester; Penny Marcucci, Marlboro; Linda Kollar, Fultonville; and James Armore, Warwick.

The outdoor show, now in its 36th year, is held annually and features original paintings, prints, drawings, photography and sculpture by numerous artists in the region.
