Health Services Wellness Center encourages students to lead a safe
and healthy lifestyle. Students are offered health education during
all patient visits. Additionally, Health and Wellness Information
Tables are conducted regularly, as are dorm and campus wide
presentations. These programs are designed to provide a positive
learning and healthy social environment on campus.
Be A Knight: Be Well
The Mount launches an annual social norms campaign, Be A
Knight Be Well, to educate students about common college
lifestyle misperceptions. Be A Knight Be Well presents
facts and statistics reflecting the positive behaviors and choices
of Mount students. Look for our Be A Knight Be Well Logo throughout
the year to learn more about how to be and stay healthy while at
the Mount.
Wellness Information Tables
Health and Wellness Information Tables are conducted biweekly in
Aquinas Hall. Topics such as smoking cessation, alcohol use,
benefits of exercise and stress management are among the areas that
may be covered. Students are encouraged to stop by to receive
important health information and free giveaways.
Healthy Mondays
Healthy Mondays is an effort to encourage healthy behaviors in
the Mount community. Weekly health tips focus on nutrition,
fitness, general wellness. stress management, and much more. If we
committ to small positive changes in our routine every Monday,
we're more likely to maintain these habits throughout the week and
thereafter. Over time, we'll improve our overall health and state
of mind. Look for weekly Healthy Monday Tips on the portal and
electronic message boards located throughout campus.
No Phone Zone
The Health Services Wellness Center and the Mount
community have joined the No Phone Zone, a national
movement to put an end to distracted driving. Statistics reveal
that more than 500,000 car crashes occur each year, including 6,000
fatalities related to cell phone use while driving. By signing a
pledge not to text or use your cell phone behind the wheel, and
encouraging students, co-workers, family and friends to do the
same, MSMC can be part of this life saving campaign. No Phone
Zone pledge forms are available in various departments on
campus, at our biweekly wellness information tables and at Health
Services located in Guzman Hall.
Annual Health and Wellness Fair
Every March our office invites all Mount students, faculty and
staff, and the surrounding community to join us at our
free health and wellness fair. Over fifty organizations
participate, including top medical facilities, insurance companies
and support groups. MSMC student clubs and on campus
departments are also there with creative presentations. The
event features important health information, giveaways, raffles,
and much more. Health screenings such as bone density, cholesterol,
and blood pressure and free massage sessions are
also available.
Influenza (Flu) Vaccination
During the fall influenza (flu) vaccines are available from
our office for a small fee. Several flu clinics are also conducted
at a variety of locations and times to accomodate student, staff,
and faculty schedules.
