Services for Students with Disabilities

Utilizing Accommodations

Informing professors of accommodation needs

Once students are approved for accommodations, letters verifying that they are entitled to such services will be prepared for them at our office to distribute to their course instructors. Students are given the responsibility of requesting classroom and testing accommodations from their instructors. See other sections for more information regarding testing accommodations and advocacy.

Academic difficulties

Students experiencing academic difficulties can schedule an appointment with a disability counselor to discuss their options. We encourage students to contact their instructors to discuss strategies for improving performance and overall progress in their courses. Instructors may offer information on study tips, exam preparation, study groups and tutoring services. Tutoring services are provided by the Center for Student Success.

Advocacy

While the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) works diligently to meet the needs of our students, there is always a chance that a problem may arise. SSD will assist students with any issues they might encounter regarding the implementing of their accommodation plans. However, we cannot remedy a problem if we do not know about it.

Students experiencing any problems such as an instructor refusing to provide an accommodation or college personnel discussing their accommodations in an inappropriate manner are encouraged to contact the our office so we can help them resolve their concerns as soon as possible.
