Network Services handles the maintenance, operation, and
strategic planning / implementation of Mount Saint Mary College
data, wireless, and telephony networks.
Our professionals provide assets and support  designed to
help our students, faculty, and staff meet and/or exceed their
goals. Our goal is to achieve the highest possible "up time" with
minimal scheduled interruptions. We expect our network to function
perpetually.
Mount Saint Mary College has partnered with Extreme Networks® to
facilitate a dynamic and agile infrastructure. Our core and edge
switches are state-of-the-art devices designed for speed and
security. The network is fiber-optic based with maximum connection
speeds of 10 GB to mission critical assets and gigabit Ethernet
connections to each building.
The wireless network is configured to support any of the
ratified 802.11x standards from 802.11A through 802.11G. Our focus
on the wireless network is speed and security. Students should find
little difficulty in connecting to our wireless network with any
wireless network card. However, all wireless patrons must first
register their systems through an automated process to receive
perpetual wireless access.
The Mount employs a predominately virtual server strategy. This
allows our network engineers to quick respond to the needs of our
customers and protects the College from data loss and/or a single
system failure. Our strategy is to achieve the highest possible up
time in a dynamic environment where development and testing are the
norm.
