Academic Assistance

Free tutoring—individualized and small groups—is available to all Mount undergraduates in most major subject areas.

The Office of Outcomes Assessment and Developmental Instruction can provide tutoring through the following venues:

  • appointment tutoring
  • the Writing Center
  • the Division of Natural Sciences
  • supplemental instruction

Evidence shows that tutoring contributes significantly to students’ academic performance. In 2008-2009, 97% of student users said tutoring helped them better learn their material, and surveys of student satisfaction indicate that the Mount’s tutoring services outperform tutoring programs at other four-year colleges across the nation.

Mount tutors are typically undergraduate peer tutors. They have been highly recommended by college faculty on the basis of their knowledge, communication skills and interpersonal abilities. Tutors are evaluated each semester by student users and the administrative staff.

Academically superior students may find on campus-employment opportunities as peer tutors. Mount tutors can earn competitive wages and develop marketable skills and competencies.

Many Mount tutors are Dean’s List students, have been recognized by “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities,” and hold membership in the college’s honor societies.

“This school provides a small tight knit community with the opportunity to balance academics, social life, and athletics making it a great college experience.”
