Students interested in a career in psychology, social work, government, law, and education to name just a few of the areas covered in the Division of Social Sciences at the Mount can choose from seven majors: History, History/Political Science, Human Services, Interdisciplinary Studies, Psychology, Social Sciences and Sociology.

In addition to the seven majors, students can choose to concentrate in specific areas covered by the division. The Social Sciences major offers four concentrations: History, History/Political Science, Psychology and Sociology, while the Human Services major offers four concentrations: Generalist, Counseling/Client Services, Social/Community Services and Criminal Justice. The Interdisciplinary Studies major offers three concentrations: General studies, International Studies and Pre-Law.

Each area of study offers engaging curricula, meaningful experiences, and highly qualified professors who are dedicated to helping you get the most out of your courses and practical experiences.

Work toward an advanced degree

Human Services, Psychology and Sociology majors interested in social work can complete three years of study at the Mount and two additional years at Fordham University. After completing their studies they will graduate with a B.A. from the Mount and a Master's in Social Work (MSW) from Fordham.

Psychology majors can earn their Doctorate in Physical Therapy by completing their undergraduate degree at the Mount in three or four years and by attending New York Medical College for three additional years.

Internships, Careers

The Division of Social Sciences encourages students to participate in internships. They have interned in the New York State Assembly, state and local government offices, community and social service organizations and local health care facilities. Graduates from the Mount's Division of Social Sciences have gone on to positions in business with local and national corporations, government on all levels, law enforcement, the legal profession, social services and teaching. Many of our graduates have gone on to graduate and professional schools.
