History
See yourself as a History major
History is more than a collection of dry-as-dust facts; more than an exercise in memorization. It is the study of human life re-created from the tracks our ancestors have left behind. The study of history in today's world equips students with analytical skills and research techniques of great practical value in both educational and career settings. The program is designed to acquaint students with different ages, societies and cultures, and to develop their strengths in writing and thinking.
In organizing the curriculum, the distinguished faculty has provided students with a broad knowledge of history and a firm foundation for graduate school or careers in business, government service, law and teaching. Practice and theory are linked through internships at the area's many historical sites. Recent graduates have obtained positions in a wide variety of professions, such as teaching, public administration, museums, law offices and law enforcement.
Study Abroad
The world can be your classroom at the Mount. Our Study Abroad Program offers you an opportunity to study in a foreign country. You can spend a semester studying at a number of different colleges and universities abroad.
In addition to our semester-long programs, the Mount has an exceptional summer abroad program with St. Clare's College in Oxford, England. You'll not only study history and literature, you'll take a number of day trips to see where history was made.
The liberal arts tradition
While it is very important to concentrate on one area of study, we believe that exposure to courses in other disciplines will develop you as a whole person. No matter what course of study you pursue at the Mount, you will take a number of required courses in the liberal arts (arts and letters, natural science, math, social science, and philosophy or religion.) Combined with the elective courses you choose to take, you will become a critical thinker and a life-long learner.
