Teddy Bear Workshop

Learn how to make your own original and classic jointed teddy bear. Some knowledge of sewing is necessary.

Watercolors

Students will observe a watercolor demonstration from a sketch to a completed painting. Choosing their own subject, students will then demonstrate the use of watercolors from a basic drawing to a completed painting.

Instructor: Len DeVirgilio
Len DeVirgilio has been a graphic designer for over 40 years. All his work experience has been in New York, working in advertising agencies and design studios on national accounts. He is a graduate of the School of Art and Design and also attended the School of Visual Arts. Since retiring from the commercial art field, he has been doing the one thing he truly enjoys - painting in the watercolor media.


The Basics of Landscape Photography

Have you ever tried to capture a beautiful landscape on film onky to be disappointed by the outcome? You get back your prints expecting a masterpiece (or a least a nice shot), but the shot doesnt' convey the orginal beauty of the moment. This course will explore the aesthetic sid of landscape photography as well as how the technical part may impact the quality of the overall image. You will learn the fundamentals needed to capture quality landscape images.

Instructor: Tom Doyle
Tom Doyle is a retired Lieutenant from NYCPD. Many of the practices developed during his time in law enforcement were very helpful in landscape photography. As a police officer, he was constantly observing his surroundings. This practice is carried over to photography, but instead of looking for bad guys, he's looking for good images and accessing ambient light. His work has received competitive recognition and is currently being shown at Hudson Valley Gallery in Cornwall-on-Hudson.


Sculpture: Bust / Full Figure From Life

With this course the student will complete a full scale sculpture of a complete head (bust) or full figure in wet clay from observing a live model. Five three-hour sessions will cover the use of common sculpting tools, wet clay and methods of training the eye to measure the necessary proportions. Wet clay and tools will be made available on the first day of class at an additional charge of $20.00 to the students.

Instructor: Robert Breur
Robert Breur Following a career with IBM, Robert developed a business of antique restoration from a lifelong hobby of woodworking. Repairing broken and ornate wood carved segments in antiques led to experimentation in carving the human figure which gave need to learn to sculpt first in plastaline clay then wet clay. Gayle Fedigan, an accomplished portrait artist, is founder and director of the Hudson Valley Pastel Society. She has been accepted into the Pastel Society of America Show. Gayle studied at the Art Students League in NYC and with local artist John Gould. She taught art in Ireland this past summer.


Sumi-E Brush Painting

Learn traditional Asian brush painting skills with bamboo brushes and ground ink on rice paper. Create the classic forms of Bamboo, Orchid, Plum and Chrysanthemum. Beginners start with ink only while intermediate and advanced students use watercolor and ink and other subjects.
