Nurturing the Global Citizen Within

October 22, 2014 7:00 PM
Dominican Center Room 218

Nurturing the Global Citizen Within is a call for the conversion of mind, heart, and soul. A "Global Citizen" is someone who is aware of the wider world and has a sense of his or her role as a world citizen. An informed Global Citizen respects and values diversity, and has an understanding of how the world works economically, politically, socially, culturally, and environmentally. They are, like Pope Francis, outraged by social injustice, and participates in and contributes to at a range of levels from the local to the global.

An informed Global Citizen is willing to act and live in such a way as to make the world a more sustainable place.

Not too many years from now, a new generation will look back at us and ask one of two questions. Either they will ask – “What were you thinking? didn’t you see the entire North Polar ice cap melting before your eyes? Didn’t you care?” or they will ask instead, “How did you find the moral courage to stand up solve a crisis so many said was impossible to solve?”

Each of us must choose which of these questions we want to answer, and we must give our answer now – not in words but in behavior, promoting sustainable human and social developments at the personal, local, and global levels.

A public lecture will be presented at 7 pm. A faculty luncheon will take place at noon on October 22. Faculty should RSVP to jeanne.conboy@msmc.edu
