Press Conference: START-UP NY; START-UP Newburgh

NEWBURGH, N.Y., June 20, 2014 — Mount Saint Mary College has applied to START-UP NY, with the goal of aiding in the City of Newburgh’s economic development and creating new job opportunities for Newburgh residents. Area business and government leaders will address this initiative on Monday, June 23, at 1 p.m., at a press conference at the Mount’s Kaplan Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology.

  • Judy Kennedy, Mayor of Newburgh; or Karen Mejia, District 1
  • Les Neumann, iCANny/ Hudson Valley Center for Innovation
  • Howard Reis, President of HEALTHePRACTICES, Solutions for Innovative Healthcare Providers

The college plans to partner with iCANny, a Hudson Valley-based business incubator and accelerator, to launch START-UP Newburgh. The college will provide space for start-up, emerging, and mature businesses to develop and expand operations at low cost. These businesses can then migrate to the economic community, providing jobs and new opportunities for the city, its business base, and its people.
