Women Veterans Workshop

September 10, 2014 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Dominican Center Room 218

Mount Saint Mary College and the Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor will hold a workshop at Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday, September 10, for organizations interested in improving their capacity to work with women veterans.

The half-day event (1- 4 p.m. in the MSMC Dominican Center) will introduce organizations to the unique experiences of women veterans, and the need for tailored services and structures that will help them excel and succeed in programs that serve them.

Goals of the workshop include 1) a better understanding of the specific experiences women veterans share; and 2) an organizational commitment to making changes in the way that organizations and executives serve women veterans.

Participating organizations should bring to the training:

1. at least three executive level staff members;

2. be willing to discuss organizational challenges; and

3. deliver a specific public commitment toward improving their organization’s services for women veterans at the close of training.

Smaller group breakout sessions will encourage organizations to work as a team through a series of checklists designed to foster creative thinking about areas of strength and areas for improvement in services for women veterans. After group discussions, each organization will make specific commitments as to how it will address those challenges.

Following the training, the Women’s Bureau will work with each organization to progress in addressing self-identified challenges.

Organizations can register to attend the free workshop, or find out more information, by emailing Lisa Gallina, Director of Admissions for Graduate Programs and Adult Degree Completion at Mount Saint Mary College. (lisa.gallina@msmc.edu).
