Andrea Dodge Ackermann PhD, RN, CNE is a Professor and School of Nursing Chair at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. She served as Director of Simulation and Clinical Learning for 4 years. She completed her undergraduate studies in Massachusetts and received an MS in Nursing Education at Sage Graduate School in Troy, NY. During her 25 years as an RN working in the Boston and Hudson Valley areas, she specialized in critical and post anesthesia care.

Professor Ackermann completed her PhD through the School of Nursing at Duquesne University where she investigated learning outcomes in CPR using simulation for her dissertation. One of her publications won “Research Article of the Year for 2010” from the journal Clinical Simulation in Nursing.

She designed, developed, and managed the Nursing Simulation Learning Center at Mount Saint Mary College. Professor Ackermann also works as a consultant with international nursing associations, local hospitals, nursing education programs, and architects in developing nursing simulation centers and educational practices in simulation. She serves as a peer reviewer on the Editorial Board for Nursing Perspectives and Clinical Simulation in Nursing. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning as VP Finance.

Professor Ackermann plans, as chairperson, to assist her faculty to develop a nursing curriculum based on learning concepts and experiential learning and to continue to develop simulation education for nursing and inter-professional health care within the academic, service, and distance education learning environments.
