Commencement 2014

Accessibility and Mobility

Students expecting guests with disabilities or limited mobility at Commencement who may be in need of accommodation should contact the Office of Disability Services at 845-569-3115 at least three weeks prior to Commencement weekend. This includes requests for graduates and/or their guests. Every attempt will be made to arrange accommodations, but late requests cannot be guaranteed.

Service Animals are welcome (no other animals are permitted on the Campus).

Walking distance and terrain on campus

Students are reminded to advise their guests of the walking distances involved on campus (especially from the parking lots to the Dominican Center Chapel, the athletic field gates, seating and to restrooms), that there are some inclines and that to reach Commencement seating will involve walking on grass.

Security personnel will be available to assist with directing traffic to accommodate persons needing to be dropped off nearer to the event (those guest unable to walk or use provided shuttles). This area will be limited to drop off only; vehicles can not be left unattended. There will be seating immediately inside the first gate (please be sure the guest has their ticket) to allow guests to comfortably wait for the rest of their party.

Please be advised that the need for handicap parking near the event far exceeds daily demand, and to best accommodate the number of people in need we request that only those who are unable to “drop off” use handicap parking closest to the event (State permit required). Note that shuttles are not handicap accessible. After the ceremonies, for safety reasons, pick up will be delayed until the immediate area is clear.

Wheelchair requests

In order to assist people that may not ordinarily need or have limited ability to bring their own wheelchair, the College has made arrangements to have wheelchairs available. To assure availability for all those in need, requests for a provided wheelchair must be received three weeks prior to Commencement Weekend. Every effort will be made to accommodate last minute needs, but they can't be guaranteed. Please print out or ask for a copy of the Wheelchair Request Form, complete and return to Health Services (fax 845-569-3514, email barbara.seymour@msmc.edu)

For the health and safety of all, no smoking is permitted under the tent or in any buildings.

Additional questions should be directed to Health Services, 845-569-3152 or Services for Students with Disabilities, 845-569-3115.

Thank you!
