Fr. Francis Amodio, O.Carm., blesses Sakac Hall at Mount Saint
Fr. Francis Amodio, O.Carm., chaplain and director of Mount
Saint Mary College’s campus ministry, blessed the Mount’s residence
halls at the beginning of the new academic year.
Fr. Amodio invited students to pray at Sakac Hall, Guzman Hall,
and the College Courts for a safe, happy, and holy semester. He
also blessed the Mount’s sports teams for the fall and spring
seasons, and assisted in blessing the newly renovated campus store
According to Fr. Amodio, people, occasions, and objects can be
blessed. A prayer is said during the event, which “explains God’s
way and how God’s presence is connected” to the blessing.
He added that holy water is usually sprinkled onto the person or
object being blessed as an echo of Baptism.
The recent blessings are the newest in a Mount tradition. In the
past, Fr. Amodio and Fr. Kevin E. Mackin, OFM, college president,
have blessed campus sports fields, student vehicles, wedding
couples, those celebrating anniversaries, employee offices, roses
on the feast of St. Therese, and student religious articles.
Fr. Mackin will bless the animals of Mount students, alumni, and
those in the Newburgh area on Sunday, September 29, after morning
mass, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.
Rooted in the college’s Catholic tradition, the Mount’s campus
ministry helps to build a community of faith through prayer,
worship, and service. A variety of activities are offered,
including prayer experiences, retreats, and service programs.
