St. Philip's Church Choir to perform Brahms

On Wednesday, April 12, the St. Philip’s Church Choir from Garrison, NY will perform Ein deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms in the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary in the Dominican Center at Mount Saint Mary College.

The Requiem, a masterwork of choral literature, was completed by Brahms in 1868 after the death of his mother. Pianists Sylvia Buccelli and Ruthanne Schempf will accompany the choir using Brahms’s own arrangement for piano four hands. The soloists are Julie Heckert and Michael McKee. Durward Entrekin, Professor of Music at MSMC and Music Director of St. Philip’s Church, will conduct.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

No stranger to Mount Saint Mary College, the St. Philip’s Choir often performs with the MSMC College Choir at the annual Christmas Vespers service. In 2015, the St. Philip’s Choir presented a concert of sacred music in the DC Chapel that included representative works from the Renaissance through the twentieth century.
