As a hospice and palliative care nurse practitioner, thanatologist, and nursing educator for over 30 years, Dr. Fleming-Damon has extensive hospice and palliative care experience in administration, education, and clinical practice. With board-certifications in both adult medicine and advanced practice in hospice and palliative care, she is a founding member of the first palliative care consultative service in the New York Hudson Valley. She was conferred the title of Fellow of Thanatology from the Association of Death Education and Counseling for her work in end-of-life care. With a professional mission to conduct and translate innovative research into the development and implementation of initiatives in hospice and palliative care, her goal is to increase knowledge, improve clinical practice, and enhance care for individuals experiencing serious illness and their families.
In 2011, Dr. Fleming-Damon joined the faculty of the School of Nursing as an adjunct lecturer and clinical instructor. In 2019, she transitioned to a full-time faculty role where she currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. Her area of interest is the integration of palliative care education to nursing students for the alleviation of human suffering and provision of compassionate nursing care across all settings.
