Linda Kelly's nursing interests focus on underserved and vulnerable populations and providing care to individuals with psychiatric disorders. The profession of nursing provides a unique ability to engage not only in the promotion of health and disease prevention, but also requires caring and human connection. Teaching provides the opportunity to introduce students to these values, and also to introduce the concepts of lifelong learning and intellectual inquiry that are necessary for a successful career in nursing. She is also a volunteer for the Scholars in Scrubs program, which promotes health education and promotion, and health careers awareness to local youth at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center. Volunteer opportunities have been encouraged for nursing students at MSMC to engage with the community and provide service learning opportunities.
Specialization/Areas of Research Interest
Nursing Education, Mentoring in nursing - Linda's research interest is mentoring in the nursing profession. She is currently in the research phase of my dissertation, focusing on mentoring outcomes of novice academic nurse educators. In an effort to increase diversity in the student population and promote the academic pursuit of nursing within the Newburgh community, she is also in the process of developing a mentoring program between MSMC Nursing students and local high school students interested in the nursing profession.
