The Medici Scholars Program will introduce undergraduate business students to the world of nonprofits in the arts and human services in order to foster a better understanding of the important role the business community plays in supporting art, music, and nonprofits. Through the generosity of Walden Savings Bank, the Medici Program will prepare students for leadership and principled corporate citizenship.
Each year, Medici Scholars will work with two nonprofits, one celebrating the arts and one servicing humankind. These nonprofits will be split between the fall and spring semesters. Depending on the needs of the nonprofit, Medici Scholars will bring their classroom knowledge to help them reach their goals. It could range from helping to plan an event to data analysis.
Medici Scholars will have the opportunity to meet the board and committee members of these entities and see firsthand how a board for a nonprofit operates.
At the beginning of the academic year the scholars will attend a “Medici Kick Off” at Walden Savings Bank headquarters meeting the executives of Walden Savings and the executives who run the chosen nonprofits. At the end of the academic year, all will return to the bank for a “Medici Finale” where the scholars will make a presentation sharing their experiences.
The Medici Program is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors majoring in business or accounting. Students must be matriculated and in good academic standing.
