NEWBURGH, N.Y. -
Bishop Dunn Memorial School and Mount Saint Mary College recently teamed up to teach exchange students from China about American culture.
This summer, students from the Summer Fundamentals Camp at Bishop Dunn Memorial School welcomed a group of enthusiastic students from the Miyun Middle School in Beijing, China for a day of learning and fun.
The Miyun Middle School students came to learn English and immerse themselves in American culture. In a gathering overseen by Trevor Purcell, assistant director of Athletics at the Mount, and Charles Benfer of Milton, N.Y., a Mathematics major on the Education track, the students from China learned to play kickball. At the same time, interacting with the Bishop Dunn students helped them to sharpen their English skills.
“We are always looking for new opportunities to share with our students to help them grow and become global citizens,” explained Nancy Benfer ’04, principal of Bishop Dunn Memorial School and Mount alumna. “It was a truly enjoyable experience for everyone. We hope to continue our partnership for next year.”
The event was made possible through a collaboration with the Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. The Storm King School is part of the Global Learning Travel Exchange and hosts students from all over the world, including the recent visitors from China.
