High school students took tours of the Mount Saint Mary College campus, led by student and alumni guides, before digging into a classic cookout on July 25.

High school seniors-to-be jumpstarted their college searches on July 25 with a fun and informative barbecue at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y.

An overcast day didn’t stop the enthusiastic scholars from enjoying a classic cookout and touring the campus with student and alumni ambassadors. They visited residence halls and classrooms, and were wowed by the college’s breathtaking views of the Hudson River.

By meeting with current Mount students, faculty, coaches, financial aid experts, and admissions staff, students and their families learned about the diverse array of majors, courses, and athletic opportunities offered by the college.

As the smell of fresh burgers and hotdogs drifted through the air, Sara Cassieri of Fishkill, N.Y. learned more about the college’s creative writing and publishing options.

“The Mount is my number one school,” she said. “The writing program is amazing.”

Alicia Ramirez of New York City noted that “the class sizes are small. I like that I can actually get to know my professor and my classmates, and I’ll be able to get the help I need in class.”

Lauren Silva of Milford, Conn. is interested in the Mount’s nursing program. At the Mount, about 50 percent of freshmen aim for careers in health professions. The college offers a nursing program that boasts an NCLEX pass rate that consistently outperforms the state average.
