NEWBURGH, N.Y. -

Mount Saint Mary College Nursing alumna Alexandra Galan was recently presented with the Rising Star Award from the New York State Emergency Nurses Association at their state council meeting.

Mount Saint Mary College alumna Alexandra Galan was recently presented with the Rising Star Award by the New York State Emergency Nurses Association (ENA).

The 2017 Nursing graduate and registered nurse was nominated by her workplace, the John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, N.Y., for the award after joining the association in January.

The award, which was presented to Galan at the state council meeting, is presented to one nurse in New York State who has been in the association for less than five years, has made considerable contributions to the ENA, and has great potential as an emergency room nurse.

Galan loves her job in the emergency department at Mather Hospital and was thrilled just to be a part of the association.

“I joined the Emergency Nurses Association and started going to chapter meetings to become more involved,” she explained. “Receiving the award was a great honor.”
