Mount hosts open mic poetry session

May 01, 2019
NEWBURGH, N.Y. -

Batter up! R. Scott Russell, assistant professor of Sports Management at the Mount, gave an inspired reading of the classic baseball poem, “Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer. The Mount Saint Mary College community recently bid adieu to April – National Poetry Month – with an open mic reading featuring students, faculty, and staff.

The Mount community took turns reciting a variety of poems, from classic works to original pieces, for nearly an hour.

Earlier in the month, the Mount ushered in the spring season with its annual April poetry series, this year featuring acclaimed authors Eamon Grennan and the college’s own James Finn Cotter.

All three readings were sponsored by the Division of Arts and Letters and hosted by the Mount Saint Mary College Kaplan Family Library and Learning Center.
