Mount seniors recognized for community dedication and academic skill

With graduation only a few days away, Mount Saint Mary College seniors were recognized for their dedication to academics and the campus community on Tuesday, May 7.


More than two dozen deserving senior students received awards.


Mikayla Zaccaria of Point Lookout, N.Y. was the recipient of the Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) Award, presented to a graduating senior who has maintained a high standard of academic performance, exhibits a spirit of cooperation, leadership, and loyal service, and is representative of what a Mount student exemplifies.
 
Christina Mistretta of Brooklyn, N.Y. was the recipient of the Father Michael J. Gilleece Memorial Award, which is given to a senior who has a great academic average; is a person of high moral character who exemplifies Judeo-Christian values in their everyday life; and who has worked unselfishly for the development of the human potential of their fellow Mount students.
 
Kayla O’Connor of Kearny, N.J. was the recipient of the Thomas J. Conlon Memorial Award, which is given to a senior student who has shown outstanding leadership in Student Government.
Debbie Francisco of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, and Katie Hertlein of Glenwood, N.J. received awards for Outstanding Service to the Class of 2019, which is given to seniors who have devoted much of their time and energy in serving their classmates, the Mount community, and the community at large.
 
Senior Class Awards for Service and Involvement in Their Communities recipients were Lily Chimenti of Stony Brook, N.Y.; Taylor Keller of New Paltz, N.Y.; Nicole Laghezza of Sayville, N.Y.; Tam Lam of Marlboro, N.Y.; Derek O’Hanlon of Goshen, N.Y.; Alyssa Picard of Torrington, Conn.; Nicholas Terzulli of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Sarah Waleck of Glenwood, N.J.
 
Senior Class Awards for Outstanding Leadership recipients were Margot Cano of Danbury, Conn.; Victoria Dowd of Levittown, N.Y.; Tyler Mannix of Waterbury, Conn.; Christopher McGorty of Bellmore, N.Y.; Nicolette Moustouka of Massapequa, N.Y.; Brooke Pavao of Watertown, Conn.; and Margaret Pedersen of Glasco, N.Y.
 
Several student clubs were also recognized for their good work.
     - The FUND-Raising the Bar Award was given to the college’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity for their outstanding work this year in             fundraising.
     - The Club Event of the Year Award was given to the college’s Allies club for their excellent PAWFormathon event.
     - The Club of the Year Award was given to both the college’s chapters of Habitat for Humanity and Catholic Relief Services.
 
Mount Saint Mary College will celebrate its 56th Annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18, featuring keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, Superintendent of West Point.
