For nearly 20 students in Mount Saint Mary College’s Sports Management program, an educational trip to Citi Field on Wednesday, April 17 was a homerun.
“We were treated to a tour of the entire facility, including meeting with the head of grounds-keeping, learning a great deal about maintaining the grass, the composition of the infield dirt, and the in-ground system that literally sucks water down and away from the field during rainstorms,” noted R. Scott Russell, assistant professor of Sports Management at the college.
The experience helped to bring to life what he had learned in class, explained Tyler Mannix of Waterbury, Conn.
“Seeing the actual behind the scenes at a professional facility was just amazing,” Mannix explained. “Everything I learned in the classroom was exactly what it was in real life and it was really interesting to see. It was such a great experience to see how much it takes to make a stadium run on game day.”
