Mount student named ‘It’s On Us’ campus organizer

July 16, 2018

Mount Saint Mary College senior Eliza Benfer of Milton, N.Y. was recently selected by the national “It’s On Us” campaign as a campus organizer.

It’s On Us is a proactive sexual assault prevention and awareness program. Orange County, N.Y. was the first county in the United States to join the It’s On Us campaign, with the Mount’s kickoff in February 2016 garnering nearly 600 signatures from members of the college community who pledged to help put a stop to dating and sexual violence wherever they go. Many more students have signed the pledge since.

As a campus organizer, Benfer will serve as the president of the college’s It’s On Us activities and act as a liaison between the national organization and the Mount. She will also meet with other campus organizers from the Northeast Regional Team of It’s On Us to develop ways to further implement the campaign on campus.

As part of the It’s On Us campaign, Mount students have participated in several events that focus on violence awareness and prevention on college campuses, including the No Knight Left Behind program.

Benfer was integral in organizing a recent No Knight Left Behind event at the Mount, where students pledged to take action against assault and reaffirmed their dedication to making smart, healthy decisions.

“It was very successful,” she said of March’s program, “and I can only hope that we can spread this No Knight Left Behind initiative across campus as much as possible.”

As campus organizer for It’s On Us, Benfer can provide further opportunities for students to get involved in the organization, she explained.
