Mount students delve into 3D modeling and printing

Mount Saint Mary College Math and Information Technology students enjoyed hands-on experience with 3D printing recently at an event hosted by Byte Knights, the college’s IT club.

Alex Valentin, director of Technical Services at the Mount, demonstrated the design and development of 3D objects. Valentin also introduced students to 3D printers and 3D design software.

According to Valentin, experience with these tools can be applied to fields in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.

After the demonstration, students had the opportunity to design their own 3D objects and were invited to participate in a design challenge hosted by the Mount’s IT department.

Byte Knights is a student run organization that seeks to foster a campus-wide understanding of technology and its uses. In past semesters, the club has organized workshops on web development and orchestrated visits to New York Public Radio and IBM. Byte Knights also regularly invites guest speakers from technology-driven industries to share their real world experience.
