Mount welcomes new trustees

Mount Saint Mary College is proud to welcome four new members to its Board of Trustees, effective this month: Sr. Constance Koch, OP ‘71 of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; Stephen McCarthy of Seaside Park, N.J.; Edward Mechmann of Yonkers, N.Y.; and Luanne Zurlo of New York City.

Sr. Constance Koch, OP, a Dominican Sister of Hope, serves as Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation at the Church of the Holy Family in New Rochelle, N.Y. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English on the elementary/special education track from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y. in 1971, her master’s in special education from Fordham University in NYC just one year later, and her master’s in religion and religious education, again from Fordham University, in 1986. Sr. Koch brings more than 40 years of education experience, both secular and religious, to her role as a Mount Saint Mary College trustee.

Stephen McCarthy, a certified public accountant (CPA), is currently a lecturer at Kean University in Union, N.J., where he teaches courses on accounting and management. He is also the owner of The Presidents Forum, a business leadership organization that provides targeted resources for growing businesses through peer meetings and online forums. He graduated from Monmouth University in Long Branch, N.J. with his MBA and from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa. with a bachelor's in accounting. Previously, McCarthy served on DeVry University’s Business Advisory Board and Middlesex County College’s Business Advisory Board.

Edward Mechmann is the Director of Public Policy at the Archdiocese of New York. He has served the Archdioceses in various high-level roles since 1995. Before that, Mechmann practiced law in several capacities, including as Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. He obtained a master’s in religious studies in 1994 from St. Joseph’s Seminary Institute of Religious Studies in Yonkers, N.Y.; a juris doctor in 1984 from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Mass., and a bachelor of arts in 1981 from Columbia College in New York City. 

Luanne Zurlo is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Busch School of Business and Economics at Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., where she has served since 2012. In 2002, Zurlo founded Worldfund, a non-profit dedicated to improving education quality in Latin America, after a nine-year career as a securities analyst on Wall Street with Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs. She has an MBA in finance and accounting from Columbia Business School in NYC, a master’s in international affairs from Johns Hopkins University SAIS in Washington, D.C., and a bachelor’s in history from Dartmouth College in Hannover, N.H. 

The Board of Trustees of Mount Saint Mary College is chaired by Charles Frank. Frank, an IBM business executive and former Mayor of Walden, N.Y., has served on the Mount’s Board of Trustees since 2012. He has also served as the Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee and was elected as Vice Chair of the Board in 2014.
