Mount hosts annual healthcare professional development symposium

Mount Saint Mary College hosted its third annual nursing symposium, “Practicing in the New Health Care Paradigm,” a professional development symposium and networking brunch, on Saturday, November 5.

Mount alumni and health professionals from Newburgh and beyond attended the symposium, which focused on funding streams, including Medicare and Medicaid, that are driving health care practice, how they work, and their impact on nursing and patient care; achieving and maintaining Magnet Program Recognition; evolving roles of nurses in developing innovative patient care facilities; patient care quality initiatives and challenges; and more.

The featured speakers included:

  • Joanne O'Keefe Miller ‘83, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Officer/Vice President of Patient Care Services at Sibley Memorial Hospital/John Hopkins Medicine
  • Laurie Walsh '83, MSN, RN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at New York-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital
