Mark Gamma of the Newburgh Actors Studio performs in the original play “Nonfiction Addiction” on April 26 at Mount Saint Mary College. The performance was part of the Mount’s Wellness Week.

Mount Saint Mary College celebrated its “Week of Wellness” from April 22 through 27, promoting mental health in the college and local community.

The flagship event of the week was the original play “Nonfiction Addiction: The True Stories of Addiction” on April 26. Presented by Cornerstone Family Healthcare Center for Recovery and directed by Lori Crescenzo, “Nonfiction Addiction” provided powerful insight into an issue many face alone. With a recovery meeting as the backdrop, the play examined addiction through the eyes of those who struggle with it every day – and the caregivers who wish to help them overcome it. The 15-person cast included singers and actors from the local area.

“Nonfiction Addiction” was co-sponsored by Catholic Charities and Mount Saint Mary College.

In addition to the play, students, faculty and staff enjoyed a field day designed to enhance wellness and destigmatize mental illness, the “Talk Saves Lives” suicide awareness and prevention seminar, and stress reducing activities throughout the week.
