Mount students strengthen faith at second ‘Awakening’ retreat

April 03, 2017

More than 25 students from Mount Saint Mary College and beyond attended the second annual Awakening spiritual retreat in March 2017.

More than 25 students from Mount Saint Mary College, Rockland Community College, and the U.S. Military academy at West Point recently strengthened their faith at the second annual Awakening spiritual retreat at the Olmstead Center in Cornwall, N.Y.

The retreat provided a venue for the students to unplug from their normal routines and reconnect to their spirituality through talks, reflection, and other activities.

The students were joined by Fr. Francis Amodio, O.Carm., campus chaplain and director of Campus Ministry, and Roger May, assistant director of Campus Ministry.

“It was a beautiful experience,” said Fr. Amodio. “Our students found it very rewarding and profound. Their enthusiasm and their sincerity animates the mission of our school.”

The Awakening retreat was organized by students from the Mount, who had been preparing for the event since September.

“They have met every night after class…to make this a beautiful experience for our students,” explained Fr. Amodio. “I thank them for their enthusiasm, their perseverance, their dedication, and their love for Mount Saint Mary College! I am very proud of them and of their time and talent.”

Fr. Amodio also thanked Mount students Angelique Suarez of Jersey City, N.J., Awakening coordinator; Alberto Gilman of New Windsor, N.Y., rector; and team leader/presenters: Danielle Altema of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Shannon Cieciuch of Haskell, N.Y., Maggie Leclercq of Danbury, Conn., Christina Mistretta of Brooklyn, N.Y., Caleb Oliver of Jamaica, N.Y., Alyssa Picard of Torrington, Conn., Andrew Suleiman of Highland, N.Y., and Maggie Torresson of North Massapequa, N.Y.
