students learn about the affordability and implications of college expenses

Mount Saint Mary College’s free personal consultation event, “Affording College: Where Do You Start?” demystified financial aid and tax preparation questions for more than a dozen local families on Saturday, February 16.
At the event, which took place in the Mount’s School of Business, a variety of professionals consulted with families one-on-one about their college planning process. They discussed FAFSA and college financial aid/award packages, explained the financial aid process, shared general college affordability tips, and more.
In addition to Mount staff experts, Mount students who volunteer with AARP TaxAide were on-hand to discuss the tax implications of higher education. TaxAide provides free income tax preparation assistance to low-to-moderate income families, and Mount students have lent their skills to the program for many years. For more information about TaxAide or to book an appointment, the number to call in the Orange/Dutchess/Putnam area is 211 (or 1-800-899-1479).
