‘Wing Knight’ nabs $300 for Mount’s Habitat for Humanity club

The Mount Saint Mary College community recently chowed down on local pizza and wings for a good cause.

“Wing Knight” netted $300 for the college’s Habitat for Humanity student club, to be used towards a spring break humanitarian trip to Laredo, Texas in 2019. Participants, including Mount students and faculty, paid a small fee to try a sampling of pizza and wings from area establishments and vote for their favorite.

Club president, Human Services major Katie Hertlein of Glenwood, N.J., expressed her gratitude to all of the local establishments that donated food to the event, including Pizza Shop, Buffalo Wild Wings, Johnny’s Riverside Pizza, Planet Pizza, Planet Wings, Billy Joe’s Ribworks, Pizza Mia, and Parkhurst Dining Services, the college’s food service provider.

At the end of the day, Planet Pizza emerged victorious for best pizza, while Planet Wings nabbed the crown for best wings.

“I was so happy with how the event went,” said Hertlein, noting that attendance exceeded their expectations.

She is looking forward to bringing the club to Texas next year.

“We have not been on a spring break trip since Laredo, Texas two years ago, but are planning a trip for this upcoming year,” Hertlein explained, adding, “The club has done a lot to help out around here in Newburgh while taking part in working on houses with Habitat of Newburgh.”
