Actuarial Science at the Mount

If you’re interested in actuarial science, now is the right time to be studying – actuarial jobs will be up by over 20% over the next few years, and New York is considered to have some of the highest paid actuaries. At Mount Saint Mary College, our new Actuarial Science concentration combines business and mathematics courses to best prepare students for the field. Actuaries use math, statistics, and financial theory to study uncertain future events, particularly those that are insurable. Thus, combining business courses like finance and economics with math courses like statistics and calculus prepare our students to work in insurance, consulting, or government agencies. In order to become an actuary, one must pass a series of exams. The Mount’s small class sizes provide one-on-one interaction with faculty who can assist you in this exam preparation, lending you both their teaching and professional knowledge to help you succeed.

A stellar Actuarial Science program isn’t the only thing you’ll find at Mount Saint Mary College. At the Mount, you’ll discover a small, tight-knit community of students and faculty on a modern, 60-acre campus overlooking the breathtaking Hudson River. Located in Newburgh, NY (halfway between Albany and New York City), our students benefit from the history and beauty of the Hudson Valley while only an hour’s train ride away from NYC, offering students a diverse array of internship and job opportunities. On campus, Mount students enjoy newly-renovated living and learning facilities, including spacious dorms, a modern library, and four dining areas, as well as more than 30 campus clubs and organizations, 21 Division III athletics, and numerous opportunities for community service. Our students are supported financially through generous scholarships and financial aid (99% of freshmen receive Mount scholarships and grants) and academically by the Career Center, Writing Center, and Office of Student Success. All of this preparation leads to fantastic alumni success – 95% of our 2017 graduates were employed within 6 months of graduation (2017 graduate survey).
