Fall 2020 Reopening Plans

We are looking forward to welcoming our students, faculty, and staff back to the campus for the Fall 2020 semester. In addition to reconnecting with each other, this will be a time to welcome our incoming freshmen into the Mount family.

As we developed plans for Fall 2020, it was clear that this semester would need to look a little different than it has in past years. Working with guidance from the state and public health officials, we have focused heavily on the details needed to provide the safest possible environment for the entire Mount community. At the same time, we are working to ensure that we can adapt to any necessary changes while still providing high-quality academics and a fulfilling student experience.

What types of changes should you expect for Fall 2020? Some examples include changes to the campus, like plexiglass partitions at counters and greater distance between chairs in classrooms and communal spaces; a continuation of the public safety habits that have become the “new normal,” such as wearing face coverings and enhancing cleaning routines; and some modifications to the academic schedule with increased flexibility in how the courses are delivered.

To create the most effective and adaptable approach for the Fall 2020 semester, we will be utilizing in-class and online/virtual instruction for all classes. The Mount’s Hybrid Flexible (“Mount Hy-Flex”) approach will allow for proper social distancing and enhance the learning experience. It also provides the most flexibility for adapting to varying needs among individuals, as well as potential changes in guidelines or health conditions at any time throughout the semester.

There are some notable changes to the academic calendar for this coming semester: Students will return earlier, and classes will move online after Thanksgiving.

    • Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21: Freshmen move into residence halls
    • Friday, August 21-Sunday, August 23: Upperclassmen move into residence halls
    • Monday, August 24: Classes begin
    • Tuesday, November 24: Last day of on-campus classes
    • Wednesday, November 25-Sunday, November 29: Thanksgivig Break
    • Monday, November 30: Fall semester resumes with classes online
    • Saturday, December 5: Last day of classes
    • Monday, December 7-Saturday, December 12: Virtual Final Exams Week
    • Sunday, December 13: Winter Break begins

In the coming weeks, we will continue to share updates about the Fall 2020 semester, including more details on early move-in, the Mount Hy-Flex course setup, and more. There will also be updates for staff regarding a phased return to on-campus offices as soon as those dates are finalized.
