Businesses in the sports industry are increasingly placing greater emphasis on recruiting and hiring college graduates with academic backgrounds in sports management, particularly those with an accompanying business background. That’s why Mount Saint Mary College’s Sports Management concentration is found within the School of Business, allowing students to develop a better understanding of the nature of sports as an industry and a business.
With the wide range of sports-related businesses in the Hudson Valley and nearby New York City, Mount Sports Management students have a variety of opportunities for internships, jobs, and real world experience as well. For example, our Sports Management students have visited the Hudson Valley Renegades and Yankee Stadium to analyze facility operations and interned with the NY Islanders, Brooklyn Nets, NY Lizards, and Army West Point Athletics. The combination of business and sports management courses allows students to understand sports as a business, preparing them for careers as athletic directors, team managers, athletic recruiters and agents, marketing and PR professionals, and sports facilities managers.
A stellar Sports Management program isn’t the only thing you’ll find at Mount Saint Mary College. At the Mount, you’ll discover a small, tight-knit community of students and faculty on a modern, 60-acre campus overlooking the breathtaking Hudson River. Located in Newburgh, NY (halfway between Albany and New York City), our students benefit from the history and beauty of the Hudson Valley while only an hour’s train ride away from NYC, offering students a diverse array of internship and job opportunities. On campus, Mount students enjoy newly-renovated living and learning facilities, including spacious dorms, a modern library, and four dining areas, as well as more than 30 campus clubs and organizations, 21 Division III athletics, and numerous opportunities for community service. Our students are supported financially through generous scholarships and financial aid (99% of freshmen receive Mount scholarships and grants) and academically by the Career Center, Writing Center, and Office of Student Success. All of this preparation leads to fantastic alumni success – 95% of our 2017 graduates were employed within 6 months of graduation (2017 graduate survey).
