A Year With the Saint John’s Bible

St. John's Bible viewing with Barbara Petruzzelli and Dr. James CotterFaculty, staff, and students at Mount Saint Mary College are now able to share an amazing experience: A Year With the Saint John’s Bible!

The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten and hand-illuminated Bible produced in more than 500 years. Using medieval inks, materials, and methods, a team of 20 artists and calligraphers worked for 15 years to create the seven volumes that comprise the Saint John’s Bible. Commissioned by the Benedictine monks of St. John’s Abbey and University in Minnesota, the Saint John's Bible was created under the direction of Donald Jackson, world famous calligrapher and senior scribe to the British royal family.

In order to share this artistic and spiritual masterpiece with the world, a fine art reproduction of the Saint John's Bible has been made, known as the Heritage Edition. Two volumes of the Heritage Edition will be on campus throughout the 2015-16 academic year, sponsored by the Catholic & Dominican Institute, the Kaplan Family Library and Learning Center, and the Division of Arts & Letters.

You can view the Saint John's Bible on display in the Kaplan Family Library.
