An Examination of "The Windhover"

iROC - Investigating Research on Campus

Arts and Letters faculty profile
Please be with us February 25th when James Cotter, Division of Arts and Letters, will present An Examination of "The Windhover".

“The Windhover” is a religious poem that begins with a description of nature and ends with Hopkins discussing God’s grace. Dr. Cotter, author of Inscape: The Christology and Poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins, will examine the poem through a variety of lenses.

Dr. Cotter Cotter is the longest serving professor at Mount Saint Mary College. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Weston College, Master of Arts from Fordham University, Master of Arts from Boston College, and his Doctor of Philosophy from Fordham University. In his 55 years teaching at MSMC, he has taught in or chaired the Divisions of Humanities, Arts and Letters, and Religious Studies and Philosophy. As a scholar, Cotter brings much to the table. In addition to having enhanced the education of thousands of Mount students, he is a celebrated translator of Dante’s Commedia, a Fulbright-Hays lecturer, and a recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities grant.

An Examination of "The Windhover" will take place in Kaplan Library Room 218 in the Dominican Center. This event has been approved FYE credit as College Connection. All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
